This section covers some of the short-term goals we have set for our organization.

Neighborhood organizations always have a primary goal of increasing membership. We are no different.

The $5 per household, membership dues help us accomplish the very basic tasks of printing the "Fact Sheets" and (now) paying for website hosting. Unless we gain 1,000 members, however, the dues alone will simply maintain our current level of community involvement, not much more.

To truly succeed, we must look for funding options and a larger pool of active members. What follows is a listing of the short term goals we hope to achieve.

Membership

  • 50 new members by end of 2007 calendar year
  • At least 12 very active new members (included in the 50 listed above)
  • We plan on making Fact Sheets and neighborhood info packets available to new residents through local real estate companies

Fundraising and Events

  • Fundraising in '05 and '06 has been low compared to previous years. We hope to change that situation with increased participation from businesses and residents in 2007. Ideas for low overhead/high return fundraisers are welcomed. In the past, we have sold ZooBooks. This is an example of a fundraiser that works well for an organization that has limited funds. No money is required from the organization until the books are sold. If you would like chair this fundraiser, please contact us at info@kmnp.org
  • Neighborhood Cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, June 23rd from 1 pm to 4 pm. This date is tentative until we receive confirmation. We are hoping to use a packer truck again this year. However, the funds have been cut for this program and packer trucks are in short supply. It is likely we will have to use a stationary dumpster and gather trash ourselves. Members with pickup trucks are encouraged to contact us if you want to participate. We typically go up and down the neighborhood streets on the packer truck, picking up debris. Please contact us at info@kmnp.org if you would like to help with this event.
  • 6th Annual KMNP Garage Sale is planned for a Saturday in July this year. The sale is normally held in June, so we thought we'd shake things up a bit this year and see if it succeeds. We hope to increase the participation this year and hope for better weather than '06. Please contact us at info@kmnp.org if you are interested in helping plan this event or getting involved.
  • National Night Out Neighborhood Cookout will take place on Tuesday, August 7th. This is a very popular event and a nice way to meet KMNP board members AND your neighbors from around the area. KMNP provides the hot dogs and refreshments. The rest of the food is brought by folks from around the neighborhood. Lots of variety and tasty dishes. Please contact us at info@kmnp.org if you would like to bring some food or help with this event.

Local Business Partners

  • The business community must become actively involved in keeping our neighborhood strong. We have neglected asking for support from local establishments. That will no longer be the case. We are now seeking alliances with local businesses. A-1 Liquor Store on 52nd St has been very generous and helpful since 2003. We hope for similar generosity from other local businesses.

If you own a business in our community, please come to one of our monthly meetings or contact us. If you are employed by a local company, please put in a good word for us or point us to the person in charge of community involvement.

  • 2006 was not as heavy in new business growth as '05. On the bright side, we didn't have any major business losses. The small strip center at 54th and Keystone appears to be thriving and Kahn's showed their commitment to our area by expanding their business to a larger building. That building replaced the blighted, former Burger King lot. We are concerned that there are still some areas along Keystone Ave. that have closed and are left in poor repair. We will attempt to make progress in getting these locations filled or at least cleaned up.

Bulk Mailing of Fact Sheets

  • Currently, our "Fact Sheets" (newsletters), are delivered by hand. We would like to receive assistance, to bulk mail them. Whether this is accomplished via grant money or corporate donations depends upon what strides are made in soliciting both.

Grant Writers Needed

  • There is a wealth of federal and state money available for use by community organizations. However, locating it and defining our proposals requires assistance from grant writing experts. If you have such expertise or know of someone who does. Please contact us at info@kmnp.org
